Mum's one tonne bub
We just returned from a day filming Humpback Whales off Eden with Dave Donnelly. Dave explained to us how mum heads south with calf in tow from breeding grounds in Queensland. Calves behave much like human kids. They're particularly inquisitive and will often swim right up to boats to play. The encounters they have and the time mum and calf spend together in these first few weeks give them the life skills they need to survive.
Special thanks to Dave... read more

Not only has this dolphin survived, it has adapted to its disability. It swims with the pod as though nothing had ever happened. The only difference in its behaviour compared to the rest of the pod is that flukes up occasionally. Almost like it is trying to tell us something.
Mate, that must have hurt eh? Imagine living in the sea and getting half an extremity chopped off!! It's a wonder these animals survive.
Fantastic sighting of the puffinus (auricularis or newelli?)...awesome.....wish we were there....Bill and Jack
